(Note: This is originally from 2006 and has not been touched since 2011)

WHY USE MUTT?

There are a number of reasons why I like mutt more than other mail readers:
  1. Comes with Autoconf support
  2. Small and efficient (if you don't compile it with "-g")
  3. Threading!
  4. Does everything ELM does
  5. Has PGP support (now officially outside the US)
  6. Excellent MIME support
  7. Scoring!
  8. Still being improved, and the author is open to suggestions
  9. All keys remappable
  10. Can open WWW browser with any URL in mail (you get a menu!)
  11. Color support (fully configurable)
  12. Xterm mouse support
  13. Efficient keyboard interface
  14. I can edit the header of the message on followup or reply
  15. Great mailing list support
  16. Functions for people with multiple email addresses
  17. Mutt is free!
Mutt has become very stable. It hasn't dumped core on me for years now. I can wholeheartedly recommend it for production use.
